Brent Tipton

Regional Director - oceania

Brent Tipton resides on the beautiful island of Guam in the South Pacific and is the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at The University of Guam and the Head Coach of Guam’s U16 Men’s National Basketball Team.

Coach Tipton has served numerous coaching positions within the Guam Basketball Confederation since 2012. In that time Coach Tipton has been serving as Head Coach of Guam’s U16 and U18 Men’s National Basketball team. His teams have earned the Gold Medal in the 2012 U17 Micronesian Championships, 2013 U18 Micronesian Championships, 2014 FIBA Oceania Championships in Division B, and the 2015 U16 Micronesian Championships. In 2016, his team won the bronze medal in the 2016 U18 Oceania Championships Division A behind powerhouse countries Australia and New Zealand. This bronze finish was the highest finish ever by the nation of Guam in FIBA Oceania. Coach Tipton has also served as the Head Coach of Guam’s Woman’s Senior National Team in 2013 for the East Asian Games in Tianjin, China and served as the assistant coach for the Men’s Senior National Team for the Pacific Games in 2015.

Coach Tipton is currently navigating a brand new basketball program at The University of Guam. The 2016-2017 season was the first year in existence for the UoG Tritons. The team was then composed of no scholarship players and finished the season 3-28. The program has made a complete turn around in the 2017-2018 season as Tipton was able to sign the first ever-recruiting class for UoG with players coming from Guam and the mainland United States. In 2017 the UoG Tritons went undefeated in the Guam Basketball League, winning the championship with a 20-0 record.

Coach Tipton is a candidate in the FIBA Europe Coaching Certificate. The FECC is one of the most prestigious coaching programs in European sport with its focus on developing basketball players at the youth level. He is set to graduate this July, 2018.

Coach Tipton has been with The Basketball Embassy since its first domestic camp in San Antonio in 2015. He has also helped TBE with camps in Instanbul, Turkey and with a FIBA Youth Development project in Botevgrad, Bulgaria.

Coach Tipton graduated from Northland International University in 2008 with a B.S. in Physical Education. While at NIU he played basketball 3 years for the Pioneers, helping them win the Midwest Regional Championship and a birth in the NCCAA National Tournament his junior season.
