TBE alumni spotlight: Huriya Mrad, Académie Basketball Mahdia

Director of Communications, The Basketball Embassy

Almost two years ago, The Basketball Embassy worked with a delegation of 12 Tunisian basketball coaches as part of an exchange program teaching entrepreneurship skills and methods to develop youth through sport.

One of the participants, Huriya Mrad, has used some of the lessons she’s learned - along with her numerous existing abilities and talents - to strengthen and grow her basketball academy in Mahdia, a small coastal city in eastern Tunisia.

Huriya documented the stages of establishing the Académie Basketball Mahdia in the video below, containing the steps and problems she encountered along the way and the development that took place from 2015 to 2020.

In the video, you can see footage of her academy, photographs of sports equipment she made by hand, and a look at some of the drills she runs with her kids. Huriya also explained the academy's goals and offered advice for young people, especially the unemployed, to achieve their goals.

We’re honored and proud to have worked with Huriya, and we continue to wish her the best of luck as she builds community through her basketball academy.
